Davis Henry is an American contemporary artist who works between visual and performing arts. The Los Angeles based artist channels a child-like curiosity and irreverence as he turns the camera on himself to spawn socially-charged personas that dance and gesture in the streets worldwide.
These personas can be found outside liquor stores, laundromats, libraries, and other locations least likely to expect his presence. The spontaneous exchange between artist and passerby is intended to provide a glimpse into ones innermost truths and biases. This however only represents one type of exchange that the artist employs in an effort to examine the transformative effects made possible from different types of ‘exchange-exposure’.
Themes vary as the artist challenges the ideologies behind social norms, race, politics, symbolism, war, humanity and beyond. The corresponding interdisciplinary works are developed using a variety of media and technology including costume, digital video, digital photography, digital composite imaging, sculpture, drawing, painting, and installation.
